Taking painkillers regularly can significantly increase the risk of hearing loss, new research suggests.
Millions of people are thought to take aspirin every day in the hope of warding off the threat of a heart attack, but a US-led study shows that men below the age of 60 who regularly take the drug are a third more likely to experience hearing loss.
The findings also show that people under 50 who regularly take paracetamol are effectively doubling the risk of hearing loss, and ibruprofen users are increasing their risk by 61%.
The study is published in the American Journal of Medicine.
