Gates loses world rich list crown

Mexican communications tycoon Carlos Slim has overtaken Bill Gates as the world’s richest man.

Forbes magazine said Mr Slim’s fortune rose last year to $53.5bn, beating Microsoft founder Gates into second place with $53bn. US investor Warren Buffet came third with his $43bn wealth.

It is the first time since 1994 that an American has not topped the list of Billionaire’s rankings.
