A Tyneside based British Airways worker has been in court today. He’s charged under the Terrorism Act. Rajib Karim appeared before a court in Westminster.

He could potentially face life imprisonment. Our correspondent Gerry Foley reports.

Wearing a plain black top, white trousers and brown shoes, Mr. Karim spoke only to confirm his date of birth, November 4th 1979. The court was told that while he was born in Bangladesh he had a few years ago come to this country with a view to obtaining a British passport. Key to his alleged terrorist activity was his full time job at the BA call centre in Newcastle, where he was an IT worker. Mr. Karim is also facing charges in relation to terrorist funding including, it is alleged, the sending of money overseas to the Yemen and Bangladesh.
