Child welfare officials have apologised for failures after a girl from Teesside was abused by a registered sex offender.

The girl was living with her family in the Stockton area when she was sexually assaulted by a man who was living at her home.

The man was receiving treatment and being supervised by 2 agencies at the time. Stockton Safeguarding Children Board, which is responsible for overseeing the safety of children in the area, says it regrets that more wasn't done to inform the girl's mother that the man posed a danger to her.
