A commemoration service will take place in Guisborough this afternoon to pay tribute to Dr Ashok Kumar, the MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland who died suddenly this week.

Our correspondent Rachel Bullock sent his report from the church.

“Well this is set to be a very sad afternoon to mark a death which left so many people deeply shocked.
Dr Ashok Kumar was found dead at his home in Marton in Middlesbrough on Monday. The 53 year old had died from natural causes, believed to be heart disease and since then, the warmest of tributes have been paid to the late MP from both his constituents but also from people right across the world of politics.

Here, this afternoon at the service to commemorate Dr Kumar’s life, those tributes will be echoed as 100’s are expected to attend the service, amongst those mourners, Dr Kumar's family for whom this is certainly going to be a very emotional afternoon indeed. After the service takes place, Dr Kumar's family will then take his coffin over to their family home in Derby for a private family funeral, a very sad end to what’s been a sad week.”
