A group of deaf sailors is preparing to embark on a challenge of a lifetime.
The team will take part in a week-long challenge during the world’s largest sailing regatta in August.
Cowes Week will bring together more than 1,000 boats and Ruth Marrison’s Sailing in Silence team will join nearly 9,000 other competitors in eight days of sailing action.
But for Ruth and her fellow sailors, their challenge is a personal one as they aim to raise awareness of deafness through sailing.
Ruth said: “When I left school I was very isolated as a deaf person and it was not until I met my sailing coach, Richard Beardsley, that I really came out of my shell as a deaf person.”
