Is BSL important to Deaf identity?
Middlesex University researcher Catherine Carlton wants to contact members of the Deaf community on a project looking at the importance of BSL to Deaf identity.
The three-year research programme is expected to highlight the importance of BSL in making communication easy, in creating a sense of inclusion and in helping Deaf people be positive about their Deaf identity.
Catherine is designing a questionnaire (to be available in BSL) exploring Deaf people's views on how the UK Deaf community is represented by Government institutions and in the media.
She says that, without the help of people from the Deaf community, her research would not be possible.
