The DDA aims to stop discrimination against people with disabilities – including profoundly deaf and hard-of-hearing people.
It’s important for all organisations – public and private – to make “reasonable adjustments” to the goods and/or services they provide, so that disabled people are fairly treated.
BSL is specifically mentioned in the legislation as an example of a “reasonable adjustment”. Many deaf people find English text very hard to understand, and prefer sign language communication.
